Areas of surgical specialization in Head and Neck Surgery

Head and Neck Surgeon

Biography/Statement

I am currently an Associate Professor of Head & Neck (H&N) Surgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles. My subspecialty training after completion of otolaryngology surgical residency was carried out within a dual fellowship (UCLA & UHL, Belgium) which focused on the advanced care of laryngeal disorders with a focus in transoral robotic surgery (TORS). Following which, I began my clinical practice centered on creating and building the UCLA Head & Neck Robotic Surgery program. In addition to developing one of the leading H&N robotic surgery programs in the country, I was elected to national committees guiding the advancement of the field including the Research and Education Committees of the American Head and Neck Society and the American College of Surgeon Accredited Education Institute (AEI) Local Advisory Board. I have published extensively on advanced practice and training of advanced surgical technology including several engineering publications. In these efforts, I have been key in identifying limitations of current robotic surgical systems in the performance of anatomically constrained robotic surgery. I have lead, as Primary Investigator, the minor funding mechanisms which supported the preliminary study on which this proposal is founded.
