Jeffrey R. Janus, MD, is a board certified, fellowship trained, Head & Neck Cancer Surgeon who specializes in the removal of complex head and neck tumors and reconstruction of the defect left behind. He trained at the University of Florida, where he was awarded entry into the Junior Honors Medical Program, a program that allows exceptional students advanced entry into medical school a year early. From there he traveled to the Mayo Clinic, where he trained as a resident physician, became a chief resident, and then stayed on for fellowship in Head & Neck Oncology and Advanced Reconstruction.
In 2014, he began his career with the Mayo Clinic as a staff physician. Since his arrival at the Mayo Clinic, Dr. Janus has published over two dozen papers on head and neck cancer and advanced reconstruction, has been awarded a $200,000 grant for research pertaining to stem cell solutions for complex reconstruction, and has treated countless patients with head and neck cancer.
His specific interests to date include parotid surgery for parotid tumors (both benign and malignant), comprehensive salivary care (including sialoendoscopy, the use of a camera to clean stones out of the salivary ductal system), skull base surgery (the use of cameras to remove brain tumors through the nose), and microvascular reconstruction (moving tissue from one spot in the body to another and reconnecting the blood vessels to rebuild lost or damaged tissue).
