AHNS Virtual Education Series: Recon ‘Round the World: Middle East
“Nasal and Mid Face Reconstruction”

Presented by the AHNS Reconstructive Head & Neck Surgery Section

Wednesday, February 21, 2024
5 AM Pacific/ 8 AM Eastern USA / 4PM Saudi Arabia / 5PM Abu Dhabi

Moderator:
Marianne Abouyared, MD – University California Davis

Panelists:
Elizabeth Nicolli, MD – University of Miami
Sami Melki, MD – Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC), Abu Dhabi
Hani Marzouki, MD, MSc, FRCSC – King Abdulaziz University – Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
Eran Alon, MD – Sheba Medical Center, Israel

Session Description:
Experts focused in the Middle East will present complex mid-face defects and discuss the complexities in approaching this defect subsite. We will discuss various techniques including when staged reconstructions may be necessary, when local flaps may be preferred, and when to consider free tissue transfer. Difficulties with maintaining form and function when dealing with large nasal defects will also be considered.

Session Objectives:

  1. Discuss a systematic approach to evaluating nasal and mid-face defects, particularly when multiple subsites (upper lip, premaxilla, nose, for example) are involved.
  2. Address when local flaps may be utilized and sometimes preferred for ideal cosmetic and functional outcomes.
  3. Evaluate examples when staged reconstruction may be necessary.

This one-hour session is free to all registrants!
