AHNS President’s Message: Appreciation and Updates

Dear Members of the American Head and Neck Society,

As we approach the end of 2023, I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude and appreciation for the incredible efforts and achievements of our society over the past year. Your dedication to advancing our field and supporting one another has been truly inspiring.

First and foremost, I extend my deepest thanks to our Program Chairs, Drs. Patrick Ha, Nicole Schmitt, and Sid Puram, for their outstanding work in planning the upcoming 2024 Annual Meeting during COSM in Chicago, occurring May 15-16, 2024. The effort and creativity they’ve poured into shaping this scientific conference promise an enriching experience for all attendees. I am also pleased to announce that Dr. Marty Makary will give the John Conley Lecture and Dr. Douglas Lowy is set to deliver the Hayes Martin Lecture. Stay tuned for registration to open in January for this meeting.

I also want to extend my appreciation to all the service and section leaders who have played pivotal roles in organizing and running various programs throughout the year. Your leadership and dedication have been instrumental in fostering collaboration and driving the success of our society.

A special note of thanks goes to the Executive Committee for their ongoing support and collaboration as we navigate the challenges and opportunities that come our way. Your guidance and commitment have been invaluable, and I am grateful for the privilege of working with such a dedicated team.

As we find ourselves at the halfway point of the year, it’s important to reflect on the progress we’ve made together. The collective efforts of our members have contributed to the continued success of the AHNS. I am confident that, with your continued support, we will achieve even greater heights in the coming year.

Looking ahead, I am pleased to announce the creation of several task forces that will focus on critical areas of our society’s growth and development, including education and training, publishing, and strengthening our collaboration with other surgical specialties and broadening our membership with non-surgeons. These task forces will be hard at work over the coming months, and I look forward to providing you with updates in the spring on their progress and outcomes.

As we approach the holiday season, I want to wish each and every one of you a joyous and restful time with your loved ones. It is well-deserved, and I hope you find moments of peace and reflection during this festive season.

Once again, thank you all for your unwavering commitment to the AHNS. Your passion and dedication are the driving forces behind our collective success. Wishing you a wonderful holiday season and a prosperous new year.

Warm regards,

Robert Ferris, MD, PhD

President
