2015 Prevention & Early Detection Community Service Grants

Application Deadline Friday, May 8, 2015!

The American Head and Neck Society’s Prevention and Early Detection Committee is pleased to open the application process for its 2015 Community Service grants. These grants are awarded in support of a project or community activities related to Oral Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Week (OHANCAW). Each $1,000 grant will be given to an individual, department, organization, or institution in support of a patient or community-oriented project held in conjunction with OHANCAW.

OHANCAW

A total of three grants are awarded – two AHNS Community Service Grants and a third international grant funded by the Head and Neck Cancer Alliance – the HNCA/AHNS International Outreach Cancer Prevention Grant.

Applicants should submit a letter, not to exceed two (2) typed pages, containing a detailed description of the project, including:

  1. The targeted population;
  2. The methods to be used;
  3. The expected outcome;
  4. The expected impact on community health and/or on our knowledge and understanding of head and neck cancer prevention and early detection;
  5. The estimated/actual cost of the project;
  6. Any other available funding.
  7. Please also include a contact name, address, phone number and email.

Applications are due Friday, May 1, 2015. The recipients will be announced in early June.

Please note that indirect support and salary are not supported as part of this grant. Upon completion of their project, recipients will be requested to submit a brief report describing how the funding was spent, the results of the project and an overall evaluation.

Mark Swanson, MD, and the Los Angeles County Hospital – Head and neck cancer education and tobacco cessation program
Monika Freiser, MD, and the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine / Harvard School of Public Health – Student-run recruitment campaign to a free cancer screening event

2014 International Outreach Cancer Prevention Grant Recipient:

Akshay Patel, DO, and the Barnabas Medical Center – Oral Cancer awareness initiative in the South Asian communities in and around Edison, NJ
