AAES–AHNS Informational Webinar: Navigating the New Focused Practice Designation in Adult Complex Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery

Monday, November 17, 2025

7:00–8:00 PM EST | 6:00–7:00 PM CST | 4:00–5:00 PM PST

Join leading surgeons from the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons (AAES) and the American Head and Neck Society (AHNS) for an informational webinar on the new Focused Practice Designation (FPD) in Adult Complex Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery. Developed jointly by the American Board of Surgery (ABS) and the American Board of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery (ABOHNS), this designation recognizes surgeons who dedicate a substantial portion of their practice to the management of complex thyroid and parathyroid disease.

Moderated by Drs. Susan Pitt and Joseph Scharpf, panelists, Drs. Benjamin James, Whitney Liddy, Salem Noureldine, Susan Pitt, Carolyn Seib, and Meredith Sorenson will discuss the background and purpose of the FPD, the application process, and firsthand experiences from those who took the inaugural Adult Complex Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery exam.

With the application deadline approaching in December 2025, this webinar offers timely guidance for surgeons planning to apply. While the session will not cover specific exam content, panelists will provide practical advice and answer questions about logistics, preparation, and how to make the most of the process. This educational session reflects the continued collaboration between AAES and AHNS.
