I am a dedicated consultant head & neck oncosurgeon/ reconstruction surgeon / oral & maxillofacial surgeon with enriched experience & expertise of nearly 6 years in handling difficult cases, studying the case history & finding out medical solutions. Over the years, I have performed more than 700 major / supra major onco surgeries.

 

I am an academically astute with credentials as MDS; MFDS RCPS (Glasgow); FDS RCS(Lon); FHNCS; FADI; FIIHNO; and FIFHNOS, U.S, presently pursuing Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery from Saveetha University. I am passionate about improving longevity of patients afflicted with high-risk & complex carcinomas. During my associations I have gained a strong experience in liaising with authorities, patients and with national and international organizations.

Dr. Shindo serves as the co-director of the Thyroid and Parathyroid Program, consulting with patients and providing a full range of diagnosis and surgical treatment services to patients with thyroid and parathyroid disorders.Dr. Shindo has special expertise in the treating complicated thyroid and parathyroid conditions, bringing together the expertise of doctors from several specialties when  necessary. She has performed pioneering work with new treatments, including minimally invasive parathyroid surgery done under local anesthesia with video technology. She is a nationally and internationally well recognized head and neck endocrine surgeon.

Biography/Statement

Nicole C. Schmitt, MD, FACS, is an Acting Associate Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology and Co-Director for Translational Research in the Head and Neck Program at Winship Cancer Institute and Emory University School of Medicine. A board certified otolaryngologist, Dr. Schmitt’s clinical and research work is focused on head and neck surgical oncology and novel therapeutic combinations. Dr. Schmitt is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, American Academy of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, and American Head and Neck Society.

 

Dr. Schmitt obtained her Medical Degree from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. She completed her general surgery internship, a research fellowship and her residency in otolaryngology at University of Washington in Seattle, Washington. She also completed a fellowship in head and neck surgery and tumor biology at University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Dr. Schmitt was on faculty at Johns Hopkins University and the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD), NIH, before joining the faculty at Emory University in 2020.

 

Dr. Schmitt’s research interest is in characterizing immune effects of cytotoxic chemotherapy and designing optimal combinations of chemotherapy and immunotherapy for head and neck cancer.
