Areas of surgical specialization in Head and Neck Surgery

Endocrine Surgery, Head and Neck Surgeon, Reconstructive Head & Neck Surgery

Biography/Statement

Dr. Vosler received his medical degree and Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh. He completed his otolaryngology-head and neck surgery residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and his fellowship in head and neck surgical oncology, robotic surgery, endocrine surgery, and microvascular reconstruction from the University of Toronto. Dr. Vosler is also an Army veteran serving one tour of duty in Iraq.

Dr. Vosler specializes in the treatment of benign and malignant tumors of the head and neck. As a clinician, Dr. Vosler is an expert in malignant tumors of the tongue, oropharynx, throat, salivary glands, and thyroid. As a researcher, his interests are focused on implementation of technology in the advancement of surgical practice and improvements in the diagnosis and treatment of depression in head and neck cancer patients. Patients with head and neck cancer have a high incidence of depression, and depression has been shown to negatively impact quality of life and overall survival of head and neck cancer patients despite successful cancer treatment. Dr. Vosler’s research focuses on early diagnosis and treatment of depression in patients with head and neck cancer.

Innovations being pursued by Dr. Vosler:

-Use of optical coherence tomography to assess surgical margins in tongue cancer. Optical coherence tomography, or OCT, is a high-resolution imaging technique that allows for microscopic evaluation of tissue to distinguish between normal tissue and cancer.
