Areas of surgical specialization in Head and Neck Surgery

Head and Neck Surgeon, Reconstructive Head & Neck Surgery

Biography/Statement

Since completion of medical school at Ohio State University, then residency in Otolaryngology at Cleveland Clinic and fellowship at Oregon Health Sciences University in my specialty, I’ve pursued the best possible clinical care for my patients.  Over this time, I have dedicated myself to comprehensive oncologic surgical options and reconstructive procedures to restore the form and function of patients undergoing head and neck surgery.  I have invested countless hours learning and attempting to improve my skill set with the singular intention of being able to offer state of the art restorative procedures after cancer in the critically important areas of the body for speech, appearance, and swallowing.  I have increased the number of patients offered complex reconstructive options within my department, and focused research efforts on innovative procedures, operative accuracy, and patient centered outcomes.  I have developed a patented surgical instrument useful in a cost conscious climate to standardize reconstructive results.  I have published on the design and implementation of a new reconstructive flap over the past year that has been accepted as a novel and clinically useful surgical procedure.

I participate actively in outreach programs for patients in the community and general and specialty specific providers across our region.  These efforts to lecture and educate the community on head and neck disorders have impacted care via earlier referrals and awareness on the part of community providers.  Within Otorhinolaryngology I have served as the Director of Microvascular Surgery and Education since 2015; the roles of the position are to coordinate the clinical care of patients requiring this type of reconstruction, mentor and recruit junior faculty, and educate our trainees in this field.   I was a part of co-founding the Philadelphia Head and Neck Cancer Society (PHNCS) over the past several years.  The organization meets regularly and has begun regional research collaboration efforts in its two years of existence, while providing regional trainees the opportunity to present and learn at quarterly events.
