Biography/Statement

Originally from California, Dr. Vilija “Vil” Vaitaitis took a chance and moved to New Orleans, LA to obtain her Masters in Science at Tulane University. Although she only planned to be in Louisiana for a year, she fell in love with the community and culture and stayed to receive her medical education at the Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans, and subsequently completed her residency training in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at LSU.

After completing her residency, Dr. Vaitaitis went on to complete a fellowship in Head and Neck Surgical Oncology and Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery in Charleston, SC at the Medical University of South Carolina. She spent her fellowship year focusing on both complex oncologic ablations and reconstruction using both soft and bony free tissue transfer.

Throughout her training, Dr. Vaitaitis has been actively involved in our AAO-HNS Section for Residents and Fellows and the American Head and Neck Society. She has done research related to 3D model printing for reconstructive cases and inpatient lymphedema therapy.

Dr. Vaitaitis is available to see patients with head and neck cancer, endocrine or salivary disorders and complex reconstructive needs at University Medical Center in New Orleans. She has a special interest in surgical oncology and microvascular reconstruction as well as transoral robotic surgery (TORS) of the upper aerodigestive tract.
