Areas of surgical specialization in Head and Neck Surgery

Endocrine Surgery, Head and Neck Surgeon

Biography/Statement

I am currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology at UT Health San Antonio. I am a Texas native and completed his medical and residency training at Texas A&M University and the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, respectively.

During my residency training, I had the opportunity to rotate on the head and neck service at MD Anderson Cancer Center and gained invaluable experience in the multidisciplinary care of head and neck cancer patients. He then pursued a fellowship in advanced head and neck surgical oncology at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Oregon.

I treat both benign and malignant disorders of the head and neck, and I have specific clinical interest in transoral robotic surgery (TORS) and the surgical management of thyroid and parathyroid disorders. My academic interests include quality and outcomes in head and neck cancer treatment, head and neck endocrine surgery, and disparities in healthcare delivery.

Biography/Statement

Dr. Li specializes in treating head and neck cancers, thyroid and parathyroid diseases, and performing complex reconstructions of head and neck wounds and deformities. He has advanced training in microvascular reconstruction that allows tissues from elsewhere on the body to be transferred to the head and neck where skin, muscle, or bone need to be restored.

Dr. Li is devoted to working alongside patients and their loved ones through their treatments. Together with the multidisciplinary head and neck cancer team, he surrounds patients with gentle, clear and comprehensive care. Endocrine Surgery, Head and Neck Surgeon, Reconstructive Head & Neck Surgery

Biography/Statement

I am a double board-certified facial plastic head and neck surgeon practicing in north central Florida. I offer a full range of surgical and medical options for my cosmetic patients but also utilize all of these skills with my reconstructive patients including recently starting a facial reanimation side to my practice.

I have always had a special interest in skin cancer.  I work and team with local dermatologists to rebuild MOHs surgery defects after skin cancer resection. I also resect and reconstruct other facial, scalp and neck skin cancers myself –SCCs, BCCs as well as Merkel cell carcinomas, and other rarer skin cancers.   I treat patients with head and neck melanoma and offer sentinel node biopsy surgery to these patients (and MCC patients)  if needed–as well as further extended resection of the parotid/submandibular glands and/or neck if oncologically needed.  Unfortunately I’ve become a locoregional referral for too many of these larger ignored skin cancers.

Specialized nasal and ear reconstructions are also part of my practice using cartilage or bone grafts, skin grafts (full and split thickness grafts) and other tissue flaps (including paramedian forehead flaps and temporoparietal faschial flaps) for full or partial thickness defects but also to reconstruct partial, subtotal or, even in rarer cases, total nose and/or ear defects from cancer resections as well as larger cervical facial rotational flaps, supraclavicular island flaps and the occasional PM flap as well for cheek/neck and/or parotid defects.

Additionally,  I serve as a craniofacial trauma and reconstructive surgeon at all the local hospitals where I have admitting privileges. I perform both initial and revision reconstructive surgeries and offer surgery to correct facial paralysis. I work very hard at educating myself and stay abreast of the current trends in cosmetic and reconstructive surgeries by attending regional, national and international meetings in these subjects.  I’ve also taken on educational/teaching responsibilities for general surgical residents as well as family practice residents in the clinic to further pass on the surgical knowledge I’ve acquired as well as to spread the word for other primary specialties what we can do for patients now-a-days.
