Biography/Statement

Dr. Orly Coblens graduated from the University of Michigan in December 2005 with a BS in Cognitive and Biological Sciences. She then went on to medical school at Tel Aviv University – Sacker School of Medicine. After medical school, Dr. Coblens went to the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia where she completed an internship in General Surgery and a residency in Otorhinolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery in 2016. She then went to the University of California at Davis in Sacramento to further her training as a fellow in Head and Neck Surgical Oncology and Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery. In October 2017, Dr. Coblens joined the University of Texas Medical Branch as an Assistant Professor.

Biography/Statement

Dr. Marilene B. Wang is a Professor in the Department of Head and Neck Surgery at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine, where she is Director of the UCLA Nasal and Sinus Disease Center and co-director of the Endoscopic Skull Base program.  She received her BA in mathematics from La Sierra University, Riverside, CA, and her MD from Loma Linda University School of Medicine.  She completed her residency in Head and Neck Surgery at UCLA and was recruited afterward to serve on the faculty.  Her practice is focused on head and neck cancer and endoscopic skull base surgery.  She has an active cancer research laboratory, studying cell cycle regulation and curcumin suppression of head and neck cancer, which has received NIH  and other extramural funding. She has mentored numerous students and residents in her laboratory, many of whom have gone on to distinguished professional careers. She has published over 160 peer-reviewed scientific articles, 14 book chapters, and presented over 200 abstracts or lectures at meetings all over the world.  She is on the Editorial Review Board for The Laryngoscope and is a reviewer for numerous other academic journals.   She has been named to the Best Doctors of America database, Best Doctors in Southern California, and Best Doctors in Los Angeles.  She is Chair of the Constitution and Bylaws Committee for the American Head and Neck Society, was Chair of the Complementary/Integrative Medicine Committee for the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS) from 2013-2017, Chair of the Awards Committee for the American Rhinologic Society (ARS) 2014-2017,  and is an active member of multiple other committees for the AAO-HNS, ARS, American Head and Neck Society, and American Thyroid Association.  She received a Distinguished Service Award from the AAO-HNS in 2013 and was named a Cochrane Scholar in 2014.

Biography/Statement

Neal D. Futran, MD, DMD joined the University of Washington faculty in 1995. He is currently the Allison T. Wanamaker Professor and Chair of the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery.  He is also the Director of Head and Neck Surgery as well as an adjunct professor in the departments of Plastic Surgery and Neurological Surgery.  Dr. Futran earned his dentistry degree at the University of Pennsylvania and completed training in oral and maxillofacial surgery as well as an MD degree at the Health Science Center at Brooklyn, New York. He then trained in Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery at the University of Rochester followed by a Head and Neck Oncology and Microvascular Surgery fellowship at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York with Dr. Mark Urken.  Dr. Futran became an assistant professor in the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of South Florida in 1993 specializing in head and neck oncologic and reconstructive surgery and subsequently relocated to Seattle.

 

Dr. Futran is board certified in Otolaryngology and has outstanding expertise and an active practice in head and neck oncology and microvascular reconstruction and rehabilitation of complex, oncology and trauma cases.  He also specializes in skull base surgery utilizing both endoscopic and open approaches.  His major research activities center on microvascular reconstruction of the head and neck and he also participates in grants studying molecular profiles and gene analysis in oral carcinogenesis.  He enjoys teaching on the topics of head and neck reconstruction, craniofacial trauma, skull base surgery, and head and neck oncology worldwide.
He is on the board of directors for the AO Foundation, a trustee of the UW Physicians, and a trustee of the Virginia Bloedel Hearing Research Institute.  Dr. Futran is on the editorial boards of several scientific journals and holds the position of deputy editor of JAMA-Otolaryngology. He is listed in the Best Doctor’s in America.

Biography/Statement

Andrew Tassler, MD was born and raised in Washington, DC.  He attended Amherst College and graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Political Science.  He then received his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine.  He completed an internship in General Surgery at New York Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center followed by residency in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at Georgetown University Hospital.  After residency, Dr. Tassler completed a fellowship in Advanced Oncologic Head and Neck Surgery and Endoscopic Skull Base Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh.

Dr. Tassler is Assistant Professor in the Department of Otolaryngologist – Head and Neck Surgery at New York Presbyterian Hospital- Weill Cornell Medical Center.  His research interests focus on quality of care and patient outcomes as well as residency training and the use of new technology and simulation in the training of surgeons.

Dr. Tassler’s expertise lies in the diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant tumors of the head and neck, including salivary glands, thyroid and parathyroid, tongue, lips and oral cavity, larynx, pharynx, sinuses, skull base and skin.  He has a particular interest in minimally invasive techniques in head and neck surgery including transoral laser (TLM) and robotic surgery (TORS) as well as endoscopic skull base surgery.   Dr. Tassler lives in New York City with his wife and two daughters.

Biography/Statement

  1. I am a private practice head & neck surgeon with a focus on minimally invasive head surgery for tumors of the thyroid, parathyroid and salivary glands.  The construct of my practice has allowed me to focus on areas of head and neck surgery that I feel I am particularly skilled at and am able to advance and innovate, while fostering & maintaining the type and high quality of relationships with my patients; despite all the changes occurring in healthcare and impacting this very important & sacred relationship.
  2. I received my bachelor’s degree from University of California, Irvine. I received my medical degree from UCI as well where I had had the honor and distinction of being a full Regents Scholar.  I then completed my internship in General Surgery and residency in Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery at UCLA.
  3.  I have had the good fortune of recognition by my peers and have been the Clinical Chief of Division of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at Cedars Sinai Medical Center since 2011.
