Biography/Statement

Ryan H. Sobel, MD is a fellowship-trained head & neck oncologic surgeon and robotic surgeon. Dr. Sobel is the Director of Head and Neck Cancer at Broward Health, located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Previously, Dr. Sobel practiced at Johns Hopkins Head & Neck Surgery located at the Milton J. Dance, Jr. Head and Neck Center at Greater Baltimore Medical Center. He completed his fellowship in Advanced Training in Head and Neck Oncologic Surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Dr. Sobel specializes in all benign and malignant tumors of the head and neck including: thyroid, parathyroid, oral cavity, tongue, lips, jaw, oropharynx (throat), larynx (voice box), salivary glands, and advanced skin cancers such as malignant melanoma.

Dr. Sobel has a clinical interest in the evaluation and treatment of neck masses and HPV-related squamous cell carcinoma of the oropharynx. He is specially-trained in minimally-invasive surgical approaches in head and neck surgery, including TransOral Robotic Surgery (TORS).  He is also a published author and frequent presenter on topics involving head and neck surgery and research.

Biography/Statement

Jonathan Serpell is Professor and Director of General Surgery at The Alfred Hospital and Monash University as well as Director of the Breast, Endocrine and General Surgery Unit at The Alfred. His major research interest is in Endocrine Surgery, particularly in the anatomy and pathophysiology of the recurrent laryngeal nerve. He obtained his doctorate in Medicine by thesis on soft tissue sarcomas and desmoid tumours. He is a previous Senior Examiner at the Specialty Court in General Surgery of RACS and Past President of Australian and New Zealand Endocrine Surgeons. He is Specialty Editor for Endocrine Surgery for the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Surgery and a member of the Editorial Board of World Journal of Surgery. He established the Monash University Endocrine Surgery Unit in 2007. He established and is Clinical Lead for the Australian and New Zealand Thyroid Cancer Registry in 2016. He obtained a Master of Education in 2011 by thesis in examination processes and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He was recently awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (ad hominem). He is a member of International Association of Endocrine Surgeons, Asian Association of Endocrine Surgeons, American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, Asia-Pacific Society of Thyroid Surgery, American Head and Neck Society, and the International Neural Monitoring Study Group.

Biography/Statement

Dr. Byung Joo Lee obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery from University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry in 2012.  He completed Surgical Prosthodontics residency at University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine in 2015.  Subsequently, Dr. Lee furthered his training by completing fellowship in Oral Oncology and Maxillofacial Prosthodontics at MD Anderson Cancer Center in 2016. In October 2016, Dr. Lee joined Baylor Scott & White Health as a Maxillofacial Prosthodontist and an Assistant Professor of Surgery.

Dr. Lee is a fellowship-trained oral oncologist and a maxillofacial prosthodontist specializing in the care of patients who require reconstruction of acquired and congenital oral and maxillofacial deformities, restoring normal appearance, function and facial contour to patients who have lost ears, noses, eyes, etc., as a result of injury, cancer treatment, or birth defects. Dr. Lee is a Fellow of the American Academy of Maxillofacial Prosthetics and specializes in designing and surgically placing dental implants used in the rehabilitation of complicated intraoral and facial defects. Treatments utilize most up-to-date diagnostic and treatment options that include a multidisciplinary approach to complex oral and maxillofacial problems.
