Biography/Statement

Ameya Asarkar, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Otorhinolarnygology at LSU Health Shreveport. His clinical focus is on the treatment of patients with head and neck cancer, diseases of the salivary glands, and thyroid/parathyroid disease, with a particular interest in transoral robotic surgery. Dr. Asarkar received his medical degree at Shri Bhausaheb Hire Government Medical College, Dhule, India in 2007. In 2012, he completed a residency in Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery at Sanjeevan Medical Foundation ENT Post Graduate Institute, Miraj, India. In 2016, he completed a fellowship in Head and Neck Surgical Oncology at the Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, India. He also complete a fellowship in Head and Neck surgical oncology at LSU Health Shreveport in 2018. Currently, Dr. Asarkar’s research interests include clinical outcomes in head and neck cancer patients, and thyroid diseases focusing on cost effectiveness of treatment strategies. His previous research work on a range of topics has been published in many peer-reviewed journals, and has been presented nationally and internationally. He serves as a reviewer on multiple national peer-reviewed journals. He is a member of numerous professional societies, including the American Head and Neck Society, the American College of Surgeons, the American Academy of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, Federation of Head and Neck Oncology and Asia Pacific Society of Thyroid surgeons. He serves as the committee member of the salivary gland section and history service committees of the American Head and Neck Society.

Biography/Statement

Kara D. Meister, MD, is a pediatric otolaryngologist and head & neck surgeon. She received her medical degree from Medical University of South Carolina and completed her otolaryngology residency at University of Pittsburgh. She completed a NIH funded fellowship in head and neck research at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Meister then went on to complete a pediatric otolaryngology fellowship at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford.

She is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor and Associate Clinical Chief in the Department Otolaryngology, Division of Pediatric Otolaryngology, at Stanford University. Dr. Meister’s research interest involves understanding the use of technology to diagnose and treat pediatric patients, specifically the use of point-of-care ultrasonography. Her clinical interests include treatment of patients with head and neck masses including thyroid nodules and cancer. She is Co-Director, Surgical, of the Children’s Thyroid Center at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford.

Biography/Statement

Prof. Ilana Doweck, MD, is the Chair of The Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, Carmel Medical Center, affiliated to The Bruce Rappaport Faculty of Medicine, Technion, Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa, Israel, and served as President of The Israeli Society of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery between 2013 -2019.

Prof Doweck attended The Technion Medical School, Haifa, Israel, and completed her training in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, at Carmel Medical Center, Haifa.  She completed fellowship in Head and Neck Oncologic Surgery at the University of Tennessee, Memphis at 2000, and at The University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida at 2001. Prof. Doweck received the Feldman scholarship at 2007 for visiting Stanford University Medical School, in the Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery. Following her fellowship Prof. Doweck joined the Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at Carmel Medical Center, Haifa, leading the head and neck cancer surgery and oncology team in north Israel, and served  in multiple roles within the Israeli Society of Head and Neck Surgery and Oncology, including committee member, and scientific secretory.

Prof. Doweck was elected as Head of Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery at The Bruce Rappaport Faculty of Medicine, Technion at 2019, and she servers as counselor of The Israeli Cancer Association and member of the Scientific Council of the Israel Medical Association.

Prof. Doweck academic focus is on head and neck cancer and oncology, including outcomes based research in head and neck with particular focus on outcome related to organ preservation and chemoardiotherapy, thyroid cancer, metastatic and recurrent, as well as translational research in head and neck cancer, including stem cells in solid tumor and in head and neck cancer, angiogenesis and expression of heparanase in head and neck cancer, Ubiquitin ligase KPC1 and tumor suppression- in head and neck cancer. Prof. Doweck received several awards on her research regarding tumor markers in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.

My Otolaryngology practice focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of tumors of the head and neck (i.e. tumors of the nose, throat, voice box, skin, saliva glands, & neck). I have training in the minimally invasive, technique of transoral robotic and laser surgery for tumors of the throat and voice box. I also have an interest in benign diseases of the salivary glands, and have training in sialendoscopy.
