Biography/Statement

Dr. Arun Sharma is Assistant Professor in the Division of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. His clinic is located at the Simmons Cancer Institute.

Dr. Sharma is a head and neck surgical oncologist who specializes in the treatment of head and neck cancer, skin cancer of the head and neck, thyroid and parathyroid neoplasms, and salivary gland neoplasms. He has advanced training in minimally invasive approaches to the head and neck, including transoral robotic surgery (TORS), transoral laser microsurgery (TLM) for laryngeal lesions and cancers, and minimally invasive video-assisted thyroidectomy (MIVAT).

Dr. Sharma attended college at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. He received his medical degree and Master’s in clinical research at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He completed his otolaryngology-head and neck surgery residency at the University of Washington in Seattle and a fellowship in advanced oncologic head and neck surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Dr. Sharma’s research is focused on understanding factors that affect head and neck cancer outcomes, with the eventual goal to implement interventions to improve outcomes. This include ongoing work on rural-urban disparities and quality of life in head and neck cancer.

Dr. Wolf is an Associate Professor of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Maryland School of Medicine with an appointment in the Program in Oncology.  He is a  graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and completed his residency at the University of Maryland Medical Center.

Clinical interests include Head and Neck Cancer, Skull base surgery, Salivary tumors, Thyroid surgery.

Research interests include medical device development and tumor immunology
