Dr. Patel was born and raised in Chicago and completed his undergraduate education at Brown University where he received his BA in Philosophy.  He attended Yale University for medical school and then completed residency in Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery at Washington University in St. Louis.  He then joined Dr. Richard Hayden at the Mayo Clinic Scottsdale for a fellowship in Head and Neck Oncological and Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery.  He returned to Chicago in 2003 to join the staff at Stroger - Cook County Hospital where he now serves as Chairman of the Division of Otolaryngology and Chairman of the Cancer Committee.  He is recently promoted to full professor in the Department of Otolaryngology at Northwestern University.  He serves on several national committees for the American Head and Neck Society and currently serves as the Chairman of the Reconstructive Surgery Section.  He also participates in multi-institutional clinical trials for cancer treatment through the National Cancer Institute (NCI).  His clinical interests include head and neck oncologic surgery, minimally-invasive transoral robotic surgery (TORS), as well as reconstructive surgery with free tissue transfer.
