Dr. Hales went to college at Texas A&M University where he studied Biology, Chemistry and Spanish.  He served a mission in Cochabamba Bolivia.  He attended medical school at The University of Texas Health Sciences Center – Houston, from which he graduated with Alpha Omega Alpha honors.  This was followed by a surgical internship, otolaryngology residency and subsequently fellowship training in Head and Neck Surgical Oncology and Endocrine Head and Neck Surgery at The University of Oklahoma.  He joined San Antonio Head and Neck Surgery Associates where he directs the Head and Neck Surgical Oncology program.  He remains very active in education, clinical research and is an Associate Professor with the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Combined Armed Forces Residency Training Program as a civilian.  He is fluent in Spanish. His hobbies include family time - wife Dana and 4 amazing children!  He practices the full complement of head and neck surgical oncology with special interest in thyroid and parathyroid surgery.  He is considered a high volume thyroid and parathyroid surgeon.
