Dr (Prof) U S Vishal Rao - MS, FRCS (Glasgow) FACS (USA) and Fellow of Royal Society of Medicine.

He is currently the Country Director - Head Neck Surgical Oncology & Robotic Surgery at HCG Cancer centre Bengaluru. He is also the Dean - Centre of Academics & Research for HCG Group .

He has 18 patents filed to his credit and his social invention of Aum voice prosthesis is considered among 100 global social innovations that has impacted 1000’s of lives giving voice to throat cancer patient. He has also invented 3 cancer medicine and honoured by Cambridge university for his work in cancer immunology with grants and collaboration to take his work forward to impact globe.

He has more than 100 national and international publication to his credit .

He was recently awarded and featured among the 50 most influential Indians from around the world at the Statue of Liberty in New York.

He is receipt of various awards from State as international bodies such as Kempegowda award by Govt and Judy Wilenfied award for Global Tobacco control by WHO Partners.

My Radiologist Dr.Arya and Me published this paper that modified the Shamblins classification for management of Carotid body tumours. This resulted in changing the clinical practise to planning the classification pre operatively

Description

This paper was written after Dcruz et al published NEJM RCT showed neck dissection improved survival in early oral cancer. The idea was to highlight that there was still scope for careful observation of neck in patients and was feasible.

Description

WE describe a novel surgical technique to operate carotid body tumours more effectively using internal to external carotid artery approaches. This saves times, improves efficiency and thus minimises morbidity.
