Biography/Statement

From London originally, Jonathan Bernstein qualified from the University of Bristol in 2002 and commenced clinical training in Bristol and Manchester. During his time in Manchester training in ENT, he completed a two-year period of full-time translational research in head and neck oncology based at the Christie cancer centre, and was awarded a doctorate for his thesis. He is well published, with ongoing research interests.

Following completion of training, he obtained a three-year clinical fellowship position at University Health Network and Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, one of the largest head and neck/thyroid programmes in North America. There, he learnt advanced skills in the management and surgical treatment of the full spectrum of thyroid, parathyroid, and head and neck tumours. Jonathan undertook about one year of the programme focusing on reconstructive microsurgery.

Jonathan works at Imperial College Healthcare (Charing Cross and St Mary’s Hospitals) as consultant specialising in head and neck ENT surgery.  Jonathan enjoys teaching and works on the question writing groups for the Royal College of Surgeons membership and fellowship examinations.

Biography/Statement

Dr. Lin proudly serves the Kaiser Permanente Southern California patient population providing care in head and neck oncology and reconstruction.  Her clinical interests include head and neck oncology surgery (head and neck cancer, skin cancer, and thyroid malignant and benign diseases), minimally invasive trans-oral robotic surgery (TORS) and microvascular reconstruction (free flap surgery).   At a young age growing up in New Jersey, she knew she wanted to become a physician and take care of patients and enrolled in the Honors Program in Medical Education (HPME) at Northwestern University-Feinberg School of Medicine. She graduated with a bachelor of science in biochemistry with honors and received her medical degree.  She remained at Northwestern University and completed a residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery .  After twelve years in Chicago, she returned to the east coast to complete a fellowship in Head and Neck Oncology, Microvascular Reconstruction and Skull Base Surgery at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary- Harvard Medical School.  She then joined the faculty at SUNY Downstate in New York in 2013 joined Kaiser Permanente Southern California in 2015.

Biography/Statement

Dr Enepekides has dedicated his career to the treatment of complex malignancies of the head, neck and skull base and to the reconstruction of complex deformities of the head and neck. He completed his undergraduate degree, medical degree, and residency at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Following his residency in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery he went on to complete two fellowships, one at Hahnemann University Medical Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA (microvascular reconstructive surgery); and another at the University of California – Davis in Sacramento California (Head and Neck Oncology/Skull Base Surgery). He subsequently joined the department of Otolaryngology at UC Davis Medical Center where he was an Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, co-director of Head and Neck Oncology, and Chief of Otolaryngology at the Northern California VA Medical Center. He then returned to Canada where he joined the University of Toronto’s department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.

Dr. Enepekides is currently an associate professor of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. He is the Chief of the Department of Otolaryngology at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and the Chief of the division of Surgical Oncology at the Odette Cancer Centre. He is also a Surgical Oncology Regional Lead for Cancer Care Ontario.

Biography/Statement

Dr. Noel completed her undergraduate work in Biochemistry/Cell Biology and Economics at the University of California in San Diego. She remained at UCSD for medical school, then relocated to Stanford, where she completed her residency in Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery. She then pursued a fellowship in Endocrine Head & Neck Surgery at Stanford. She specializes in surgery of the thyroid and parathyroid glands, lymph node dissections, and has additional expertise and interest in advanced and recurrent thyroid cancer, minimally invasive approaches, and ultrasound guided techniques in the office.

Biography/Statement

Dr. Brendan C. Stack, Jr., M.D., FACS, FACE attended Brigham Young University and graduated with AOA and Sigma Xi honor societies from Eastern Virginia Medical School, Norfolk, VA in 1989.  Dr. Stack was trained in Surgery for two years and then Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery for four years at the University of South Florida, Tampa, Florida.  Dr. Stack completed a Fellowship in Head and Neck Oncology and Microvascular Reconstruction accredited by the Joint Council for Approval of Advanced training in Head and Neck Oncologic Surgery in 1997 at the University of Washington, Seattle.  While in Seattle, Dr. Stack also completed a post-doctoral fellowship in molecular biology at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Seattle and served as an Instructor at the University of Washington School of Medicine and on the medical staff of the Seattle VA Medical Center.

 

 

Currently, Dr. Stack is Professor of and Chairman of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, Springfield, IL.  Dr. Stack has authored over 300 peer-reviewed papers, chapters, and internet articles.  Dr. Stack was co-editor of Medical and Surgical Treatment of Parathyroid Diseases – An evidence-based approach, Cham Switzerland:  Springer International Publishing 2016.  Dr. Stack was co-editor of Neck Dissection, Berlin, Germany:  Thieme, 2018.  He has presented at over 350 meetings regionally, nationally, and internationally.  He collaborates on grants from the NIH, NSF and other public and private organizations.  Dr. Stack has appeared on, or been cited by, local and national media numerous times.  He serves on the editorial boards of Head and Neck, Video Endocrinology, and the ENT journal.  Dr. Stack also reviews for several other journals.  He has served on review panels for the National Institutes of Health and review agencies for the nations of Singapore, Italy, and England.  Dr. Stack is listed in “Best Doctors” of America (since 2006), “Guide to America’s Top Surgeons” (since 2004), “Guide to America’s Top Physicians” (since 2009), Castle and Connolly Top Doctors and Cancer Specialists (since 2014), and “Top Thyroid Doctors” (since 2004).

 

Dr. Stack’s research interests include machine learning/artificial intelligence in healthcare informatics related to thyroid and parathyroid diseases and medical device development in the areas of radioguided surgery and free tissue transfer perfusion monitoring.  Dr. Stack’s clinical interests include endocrine surgery for the thyroid and parathyroid.
