D. Gregory Farwell, MD, FACS, is Chair of Penn Otorhinolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. Dr. Farwell specializes in head and neck cancer surgery, thyroid/parathyroid surgery, advanced facial skin cancer surgery, and microvascular reconstruction.

As Chair of Penn Ear, Nose, and Throat, Dr. Farwell is committed to providing patients with compassionate, contemporary, evidence-based care, and significantly advancing the field of otorhinolaryngology to create the next gold standard in head and neck surgery.

Dr. Farwell has published well over 100 peer-reviewed papers and is a leader in the field of head and neck cancer surgery.  He has been invited to give over 300 presentations across the world on the best ways to treat and rehabilitate patients with cancer of the head and neck.

Dr. Farwell sees patients at the Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine.

Biography/Statement

Dr. Michael E. Stadler is a Board Certified Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgeon and has specialized fellowship training in Head and Neck Oncologic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Dr. Stadler is a Wisconsin native and spent eight years at the University of Wisconsin where he earned is BS and MD degrees.  He was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society.  He completed his Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery residency at the University of North Carolina before going on to complete a Head and Neck Oncology/Microvascular Reconstruction Fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis.

Dr. Stadler specializes in both open and minimally-invasive approaches to benign and malignant head and neck neoplasms.  His fellowship training focused heavily on the use of lasers for the minimal-invasive resection of head and neck tumors.  Dr. Stadler is also trained in head and neck reconstruction, including free tissue transfer techniques, and also specializes in thyroid and salivary gland surgery, office-based ultrasound procedures, and sialendoscopy.

His research interests currently focus on HPV-related head and neck cancer, minimizing treatment-related morbidity in head and neck cancer patients, minimally-invasive approaches to head and neck cancers, and the use of quality metrics in head and neck cancer care.

Biography/Statement

Dr. Saral Mehra earned his Medical Degree from Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City, and a Masters in Business Administration from Columbia Business School.  He then completed a residency in Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery at New York Presbyterian Hospital / Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, followed by advanced Fellowship training in Head and Neck and Thyroid Cancer at Mount Sinai Beth Israel Medical Center with a special emphasis on Reconstructive Surgery including the use of free tissue transfer through state-of the art microvascular surgical techniques.

Currently, Dr. Mehra’s clinical practice focuses on treating patients with Head and Neck, Salivary, and Thyroid diseases, particularly cancer including advanced reconstruction and rehabilitation.  He makes use of the latest in minimally invasive techniques such as salivary endoscopy, laser surgery, and robotic surgery.

His primary research interests are in measuring and improving the quality of life in patients being treated for head and neck cancers, as well as leveraging his Business education to perform Health Services research with the goal of improving the quality of care delivered to such patients.

Dr. Mehra regularly presents original research at National and International meetings, publishes articles in peer-reviewed journals, and has a number of book chapters. He is an active Member of the American Head and Neck Society.
