Biography/Statement

Gina D Jefferson, MD, FACS is a fellowship trained Head and Neck Surgical Oncologist and Microvascular Reconstructive surgeon. She is currently in practice at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in the Department of Otolaryngology and Communicative Sciences. In addition to ablative surgery, Dr. Jefferson enjoys the challenge of reconstructing surgical defects to aid patient restoration of speech, swallow and form. Her research focus is with respect to health disparities as this pertains to head and neck cancer as well as treatment outcomes.

Dr. Jefferson is also passionate about her role in academic medicine contributing to the education of  future physicians and Otolaryngologist-Head & Neck Surgeons. She has earned the Faculty Teacher of the Year award and has served as Residency Program Director in the past.

Biography/Statement

Meghan T. Turner, MD is a head and neck/skull base surgeon in the West Virginia Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.  She has particular interest and expertise in minimally invasive techniques including robotic head and neck surgery and endoscopic endonasal skull base surgery.

Dr. Turner is board certified in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery.  She is a Virginia native and attended the University of Virginia for her undergraduate studies. She obtained her medical degree from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in Richmond.  She completed her otolaryngology-head and neck surgery taining in residency at New York University School of Medicine in Manhattan, followed by two fellowships at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in advanced head and neck surgical oncology and in open and endoscopic skull base surgery.

Dr. Turner is a member of multiple professional organizations including the American Medical Association, American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, American Head and Neck Society, and the North American Skull Base Society.  She is the author of several book chapters, journal articles, and online video publications on open, endoscopic, and robotic techniques for the management of head and neck tumors and skull base pathology.

Biography/Statement

Dr. Stringer is professor and chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology and Communicative Sciences at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He was formerly professor and vice chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Florida College of Medicine. He has been selected as the departmental faculty Teacher of the Year 10 times in his career, was a finalist for the ACGME Parker J. Palmer “Courage to Teach” Award in 2005, and was named the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society Faculty Teacher of the Year for UMMC in 2006. He is a recipient of the Honor Award from the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and is listed in The Best Doctors in America, America’s Top Doctors, and America’s Top Doctors for Cancer publications. His clinical interests are in the fields of health care economics and rhinology. Dr. Stringer has given over 125 presentations, and he is the author of over 165 scientific articles and book chapters and 50 published reviews. His current field of research is economic analysis of medical and surgical therapies.

Biography/Statement

Dr. Agrawal’s work has achieved international recognition in the field of head and neck surgical oncology and head and neck cancer genetics.  His group then followed up by publishing the genomic landscapes of the major head and neck cancers, including head and neck squamous cell carcinoma, esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, esophageal adenocarcinoma, medullary thyroid cancer, adenoid cystic carcinoma, and mucoepidermoid carcinoma.  Dr. Agrawal then applied these findings to identify tumor DNA as a biomarkers that improve cancer diagnostics in the saliva and plasma of patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.  His research is focused on the application of cancer genetics to design diagnostic approaches to reduce morbidity and mortality from head and neck cancer.

Biography/Statement

I am a board certified otolaryngologist-head and neck surgeon and practice pediatric otolaryngology with an interest in pediatric head and neck pathology.  I am on the faculty of Duke University Head and Neck Surgery & Communication Sciences and see patients up to age 21.  I am a member of our vascular malformation team and work with the pediatric tumor board and pediatric endocrinology.
